Our verdict

The default for ecommerce email and SMS because its flows, segmentation and Shopify data are the deepest available. It is priced for stores that make money from it; a small list or a non-ecommerce business will find cheaper tools do the job.

Who Klaviyo is for

Best for
  • Shopify stores
  • abandoned-cart and post-purchase flows
  • SMS marketing for DTC brands
  • revenue attribution
Not ideal for
  • content creators or B2B lists without a store
  • budget senders with large dormant lists

Primary use case: Running revenue-attributed email and SMS flows (abandoned cart, post-purchase, win-back) for online stores. Typical users: Ecommerce store, Small business, Enterprise.

Pros and cons

Pros
  • Deepest native store integrations (Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce) among email tools, so flows work from day one
  • Revenue attribution makes ROI visible per campaign and flow
  • Free plan lets a new store start without cost
  • Profile-based pricing scales continuously rather than in large tier jumps
Cons
  • Monthly billing only; no annual discount is offered
  • Costs climb steeply with profile count and SMS usage, and inactive profiles still count unless suppressed
  • Many capabilities (Composer, Customer Hub, Reviews, analytics) are separately priced add-ons
  • Overkill for non-ecommerce newsletters
